On the eve of what the weatherpeople are calling the storm of the century, I can't help but long to be back in Hawaii.  Tomorrow we'll get to relive the Ironman race on the NBC broadcast, but what they won't show you are the the little bits of paradise just steps off the race course.

Yesterday Bec sent me the link to the race photos from SJ's most recent Adventure race.  Most of the time I just take a quick look at the pictures from the brightroom, finisherpix, etc type of photography that races provide.  It is usually a) very poor quality b) overpriced and, more often than not, c) the photographer has managed to capture the most unflattering, ugliest expression and running form I could imagine and would hope never to see.  This is also known as, and coined by Maren, The Ugly Race Photo.

The Mix: Oatmeal Topping Bar

The Story: When serving breakfast to a group of athletes, it's hard to satisfy everyone's likes and dislikes, allergies and special diets. That's why when I have friends over to watch the NYC Marathon next weekend, I'll set up a top-your-own oatmeal buffet for breakfast.

This isn't another blog post where I'm going to regale you with another one of SJ's podium finishes. As I figured out within a few minutes of arriving at the race site, the Tough Mudder isn't a race. There are no chips, no times, and no prizes for the fastest team across the finish line. Instead, there are 13 miles of incredibly muddy trails with 22 obstacles along the way. By obstacles I mean jumping into a dumpster full of ice cubes and getting electric shocks while crossing a muddy field.
