Before you give me any undue credit for being a supermom, let me be the first to admit that I made these pancakes back in January - BEFORE baby. Like most pro triathletes, I've learned over the years to "move" holidays and celebrations to dates that don't conflict with big workouts or weekend races.
Three weeks post-baby, Sarah checks in on her return to exercise.
Well, I went out for my first post-baby run yesterday and lived to blog about it - barely. Three weeks since welcoming little Nell into the world, I was antsy to test my fitness. So I asked my go-to running guru Bec for some guidance on a run/walk workout that wouldn't put me in traction, here's what she offered:
For those of you who are just joining us, welcome to Athlete Moms! Last week, Sarah (our younger sister) and Bec chatted about their "Baby Race" and their goals for getting back into shape as new moms. This week, Sarah is back to offer some tips on managing that journey. Enjoy!

Clearly, Bec and I are mentally ready to get back into the game, so to speak, when it comes to training and racing. But whether our bodies are just as amped has yet to be seen. Two weeks post-baby we've both taken walks and are on our feet plenty, but after a sprint up my stairs to grab a screeching baby the other day, I was winded, creaky, and....ugh...out of shape.
We have a special treat for you today. Our friend, Elana, of the blog John and Elana Talk About Food is here to share a healthy Super Bowl recipe with us. Elana's managed to transform an Athlete Food favorite ingredient into the perfect half-time snack. Even those of you who aren't so down (to earth) with this superfood of root vegetables will be reaching for the bowl of chips.
Triathletes, you may recognize Elana from the race course or from her recent contributions to Triathlete Magazine. If this recipe leaves you hungry for more, go eat up some time on Elana's blog.
Please join us in welcoming our younger sister, Sarah, to our website. Sarah will be joining us a regular contributor and will be the voice behind Athlete Moms. A freelance writer, mom to three little ones and an avid runner, Sarah will be offering her expert advice and firsthand experiences in staying fit as a mom.
Today Sarah fills us in on the events of the last week and talks with Bec about what her plans for 2013.
