Take Me Back to Hawaii: Tropical Trail Mix

image.jpg

Suddenly sweater weather is upon us here at Athlete Food. Hayrides and autumn hikes have replaced beach front runs and board shorts. Feeling the chill under my thick ruana (vintage Columbian poncho) on my 3 mile dog walk this morning had me wondering if winter is already here.

I’m not ready for that, I want to be taken back to that spa in Hawaii - warm floors, smelly candles, dim light, yummy snacks. To ease the transition, Melissa suggested fueling my next power walk with her favorite spa food snack. It tinkers with a classic, giving GORP a Kona-style makeover.  Out: chocolate, peanuts, and raisins. In: banana chips, sesame sticks, crystalized ginger, pistachios, cashews, and almonds. Runners up: brazil nuts, toasted coconut flakes, and the dried mangoes. It won’t replace a 90 minute massage, but it does make me think of palm trees and tropical breezes. —Bec
