The Mix: Steel cut oats, dried cherries, hazelnuts and shredded coconut
The Story: Reading the local paper while fueling up on this hearty bowl of oats last Saturday morning, I came across a listing for a local 5k race. Always up for impromptu exercise, SJ and I decided to throw on our running shoes and jump in the race.
This is the entrance to my building. The water line from the flood is at shoulder height.

So far Sandy seems to have spared us any major damage (unlike Irene last year).

On the eve of what the weatherpeople are calling the storm of the century, I can't help but long to be back in Hawaii. Tomorrow we'll get to relive the Ironman race on the NBC broadcast, but what they won't show you are the the little bits of paradise just steps off the race course.

Yesterday Bec sent me the link to the race photos from SJ's most recent Adventure race. Most of the time I just take a quick look at the pictures from the brightroom, finisherpix, etc type of photography that races provide. It is usually a) very poor quality b) overpriced and, more often than not, c) the photographer has managed to capture the most unflattering, ugliest expression and running form I could imagine and would hope never to see. This is also known as, and coined by Maren, The Ugly Race Photo.
