Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us at the NYC Tri. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Finishing 1-2 has always been a dream, but to pull it off in a big race, in our hometown?? That's reason to celebrate!

Part of me started to celebrate when I was at about mile 4 of the run and heard over the race radio that Laurel had pulled into second place. By that point, I was starting to feel the effects of the 95 degree heat and hearing that news got me through the last 2 miles.
The race started off with a fast, clean swim in the Hudson. I did my best to stay with Sara M. & Hayley P., but that only lasted about 3 minutes!! They managed to put about 30 seconds on me by the time we got out of the water at 79th St. I made up a few seconds on the long run to the bike transition, but running on the bike path without shoes was did not at all agree with my foot. I knew it wouldn't, since I've barely walked around with anything but running shoes with orthotics for the past 10 months. Once I got on the bike, I started chasing and biked as hard as I could until I caught up to Sara. She was riding really well and I was starting to get hot, so I just decided to pace off of her for the rest of the ride and save everything for the run. Good thing my foot did not hurt once I started running, or if it did, I didn't notice. I was too busy concentrating on getting around the (very familiar) course in one piece and at a decent pace. Meanwhile, Laurel was having the bike ride of her career (taking off 4 minutes from last year) and following that up with her fastest NYC run split. Not far behind Laurel, Nicole K., who also competes for the Ulman Cancer Fund's Team Fight, was running super fast and working her way to the podium.
Getting through this race and the Lifetime Fitness race the week before was a huge accomplishment, given the circumstances of the last several months. I still haven't been able to do the run training necessary to be a fast runner, but that's something to look forward to over the next month or so.
