Here's a story from the Poughkeepsie Journal about the Super 5k Laurel and I did over the Walkway over the Hudson last month. What the article doesn't mention is that LW bolted out to a 5:29 mile the first time we crossed the hudson. I couldn't keep up, but made my move when I saw her make a slight wrong turn. The cops weren't ready for us when we ran through the Poughkeepsie streets. When we hit 5k on the mid-hudson bridge in 17-something, we still had over a mile to go. That's when we realized what they meant by "Super" 5k and when I realized that if I was going to win this thing, I had to push it really hard into the wind to break her. It worked! I guess that answers the question about whether we are competitive with each other!!

Hand-in-Hand helps out family center

The Hand-in-Hand 5K Super FUN Run/Walk incorporating the Walkway Over the Hudson and the Mid-Hudson Bridge raised $8,300 for the Panichi Family Center for Communication and Learning at Saint Francis Hospital. The event last month was sponsored by students of Maplebrook School in Amenia with the proceeds a gift to the Panichi Center, one of five special-needs preschool sites operated in Dutchess County by the hospital.

There were 119 pre-registered runners and 95 walkers. Rebeccah Wassner of New Paltz was the first runner to finish with her twin sister, Laurel Wassner of New York City, seconds behind. David Osterhoudt of Hyde Park was third.
