Weekend Race Plans, a Photo Shoot, SuperDad

Race This Weekend

Earlier this week, I made a last minute decision to race the St. Anthony's Triathlon. This race wasn't originally on my schedule because I didn't think I would be recovered enough to race so soon after the Florida 70.3 (just two weeks ago). But after a solid weekend of training last week, I decided to drop the idea to my coach Tim. He said, ok, you can race, as long as you are ok with getting "all of your long stuff in" this week. This meant not taking an unplanned easy week in the middle of my build up to the longer races I have coming up this season. It also meant doing one of my longest training days ever on Tuesday, followed by another long day on Wednesday. By Thursday morning my training fatigue was sky high, but so was my motivation for racing on Sunday.

For the first time since 2009, I'm actually healthy and am confident that I can get on that starting line and fight all the way to the finish. It's a priveledge to race in one of my favorite races - fresh or not.

Fitness Model?

I recently participated in a shoot for Dear Kate underwear. The company assembled a group of fit women to model their summer line. The group included a Barry's Boot Camp instructor, a dancer, a yoga teach, a Cross Fit ace, a climber, and a triathlete. The shoot took place at a boutique gym in Chelsea and we were photographed doing yoga, cardio kickbocking and dancing…all three my worst nightmare. I think the panicked look on my face made those photos instant deleters. Once we moved on to the gym photos, I was more in my element and the photos turned out to be keepers. The Fam

SJ is on about 7 weeks out of achilles surgery and is still hobbling around on crutches. He started PT last week at Fusion so his recovery is in very good hands. Since he's not able to climb, garden or play with his excavator, he's focusing on being SuperDad. Check out his instagram feed (@sjblue), which includes the Flying Poop Incident video.

Amy is now 15 months and is running and talking (in her own language). She is at least two weeks more advanced than all the other kids her age, but hasn't hit 20 pounds yet.
