For everyone who didn't receive this recipe in their inbox last week (in USA Triathlon's Multisport Zone newsletter), here's another smoothie bowl recipe for you. Made with tart cherries and ginger, this bowl adds inflammation fighting nutrients (an athlete's BFF) to an already healthy meal. And, yes, we encourage cereal for dinner here at Athlete Food.
Tart Cherry Ginger Smoothie Bowl
For the base:
1 inch fresh ginger, peeled
1 cup (10-12) frozen tart cherries (frozen sweet cherries will work, too)
1 banana, not frozen, broken into 3-4 pieces
1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
1 cup baby spinach, packed
Maple granola (or your favorite cereal)
Blend all of the ingredients until smooth and pour into a bowl. Top with almonds, cereal and fresh berries.
