Cooking in Nirmala's Kitchen

Cooking in Nirmala's Kitchen

Over the weekend, we finally found the time to visit Nirmala Narine's cooking school and spice shop, which just so happens to be at a beautiful farm we often zoom by on our bikes.

Nirmala has done so much - written two cookbooks, stars in her internationally viewed TV show, traveled to 100+ countries, cooked for the Obamas, and she even recently published a young adult novel. Martha S. is her mentor. She welcomed us in to her home and guided us through the preparation of a delicious Middle Eastern. There were no recipes, just lots of tasting along the way, and lots of spices. Definitely our style of cooking. By the end of the day, we might even have convinced Nirmala to add triathlete to her resume.

Check out her website for more details about classes. We think a bike ride + a cooking class + spice shopping = a perfect Athlete Food day. Let us know if you book a class, maybe we'll join you! Oh, and the farm is 5 minutes from the New Paltz Thruway exit and you can bike right up to it.
