The Mix: Steel-cut oats cooked with powdered ginger and banana, topped with walnuts.

The Workout: We did a 12-mile hilly run from Lenape Lane to Skytop in the Mohonk Preserve. After a 1-mile warm-up, it was 3.5 miles of hard uphill tempo-pace climbing, 2 miles flat recovery, 4.5 miles strong downhill running, and a 1-mile easy cruise cool down.

In just one week we'll be kicking off our 2012 season on the island of Barbados!  Many of the world's top triathletes will be traveling to the south Carribbean to collect valuable Olympic points in this draft-legal sprint race.

We’re not big on Valentine’s Day. The last time one of us ventured out à deux on the 14th, there was heart-shaped glitter on the table. It took a lot of willpower not to ask the sommelier for crayons.

But we’re so excited about the launch of Athlete Food, so thrilled to have gathered a few readers (thank you!), that this year we’ll celebrate Valentine’s Day with the coupling of two of our favorite things: competition and Chia Charger BeKind Nut Butters. Here are the details:

If your Valentine likes to ride bikes or spin her heart out on a Saturday morning, she might just love you more when she's wearing these shoes.

They are SIDI's snakeskin inspired cycling shoes.  The shoes come in a triahtlon style that is great for racing and training outdoors, but we're finding that SIDI's snakeskin mountain bike shoe is perfect for an indoor spin class, as the tread on the sole makes it easy to walk around the studio.

Those who know me well, know that I tend to find an article of clothing and stick with it.  I can come up with a long list of best-friend clothes - my first adult Gap jean shorts, last winter's yellow and grey Nike ski cap, and who could forget the red Patagonia vest?  I tend to overwear clothes that were cute (the first time) to the point of friendly ridicule.

Our current favorite power snack combines two heaping spoonfuls of peanut or almond butter, a small dollop of coconut oil, a drizzle of maple syrup, and a dusting of raisins or mini chocolate chips. About an hour before a workout, I’ll swirl all this into a ramekin and eat it off a spoon.
