On the streets of their hometown, the Wassner Twins finished together tied for 4th place in yesterday's DC Tri. Bec, was the second athlete to the bikes after a quick swim in the Potomac and rode with the leaders on the 40k bike course that wove through the Monuments, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown and Arlington Cemetery. Meanwhile, Laurel was making her way to towards the front of the race, passing 5 riders during the bike. Once the run started, Bec, who has been working through a hip injury, backed off the pace and ran comfortably at a tempo pace. Laurel, however, still had lots of work to do and set off at a blistering pace, passing 6 competitors on the run and posting the fastest run split of the day. By the time the twins hit 5 miles, they were running in 4th and 5th and coasted to the finish line together, 2 minutes behind the race winner, Alicia Kaye.

The race course was flawless, thanks to organizer Chuck Brodsky and course director Bill Burke and his crew. Congrats to everyone who participated and thanks to everyone who made the day so memorable.

Here's what the Twins had to say about the day:

"It was great to be back racing with Bec. Seeing her on the course leading the way gave me the motivation to try to pass as many people as I could and catch up to her. Fortunately, she waited for me on the run so that we could cross the finish line together." --Laurel

"This was a race I didn't want to miss, but since I've been dealing with an injury, I went into the race with realistic expectations about my run. It was great to be in the mix on the swim and the bike, which tells me once I start running again, I'll be right where I need to be." --Bec
