It's 2 pm, you just rolled in from a 5 hour Ironman training ride and you have exactly one hour to make yourself presentable, refuel, and be at a BBQ across town with a dessert in hand. What do you do?
The Athlete Food solution? Double-Dip ice cream cones. They are red-white-and-blue-festive and have the potential to be Pinterest-perfect without spending the day in the kitchen. Because one of the scoops is sorbet, the cones are one the lighter side give an option for vegans or dairy-free eaters.
Here's the game plan:
stop at the store and pick up:
-a pint (or more depending on how big the gathering is) of vanilla ice cream
-a pint of strawberry sorbet
-a box of ice cream cones (get the gluten-free ones just to cover all your bases)
-blueberries or blackberries
Also pick up an ice cream scoop. It'll make this project a lot easier and doubles as a nice hostess gift.
When you arrive put the pints in the freezer right away and then bring them out after dinner. To assemble, scoop the sorbet into a cone and top it with the vanilla and a few berries.
