Triathlon and the City Quick and Easy snack: Quest Cereal Bar
Living in New York city, I am constantly running around from workouts to appointments, to grocery shopping and school pick ups. I sometimes leave the house at 8:30am and don't return until I have done 3 workouts, bought dinner and shuttled a kid to camp. I'm in the heart of the city so there are many, many enticing, and not so healthy food options like donuts and cupcakes, wherever I go. This is why I was so happy to discover that I can go into the 7 Eleven next to my gym and find Quest Cereal Bars.
My husband is a big fan of the Quest Nutrition Protein Bars, so I was familiar with the brand and was excited to discover their latest product, the Quest Cereal Bar. They are lower in sugar than most bars because they use allulose as a sweetener which is a natural sugar found in things like raisins and figs. Also, they are soy free, AND gluten free (the cereal is made from protein, not grains). The cereal bars come in three flavors: chocolate, waffle, and cinnamon roll flavors. To me they taste like a splurge but weigh in at only 110 calories and 4.5g of fat. Plus, they contain 12g of protein.
I usually pick up at least three bars, one to curb my hunger before a workout, one for recovery afterwards and one to use to top my favorite smoothie bowl (check out the video below!). Next time your find yourself in need of a quick and healthy snack, find a 7 Eleven, walk by those donuts, and grab a few Quest Cereal Bars for your gym bag.
On that note, I'm off to the pool and then they gym!
Here is recipe demo video of my favorite Dragonfruit Smoothie Bowl. I used the cinnamon roll Quest Cereal Bar as a topping. It's the perfect balance of chewy and crunchy to complement the smoothie base. Also, because the bars are not super sweet they make the perfect topping to go with a sweet smoothie. YUM!
