It’s Laurel here, making a cameo on the Athlete Food blog, while Bec attempts to relax in her final days before baby. As you may remember from our Pecan Pie Smackdown, I’m not much for baking. I like the idea of eating fresh baked goods, but the measuring and cleaning required takes me out of my comfort zone. A few weeks ago, however, I received a lovely care package from Elizabeth Stein founder of the gluten-free and all natural baking company, purely elizabeth. The box included a chocolate chip cookie mix easy and healthy enough that I thought I’d risk another kitchen experiment.
I followed Laurel around earlier today for her morning workouts. She started off a treadmill tempo run and went right into a weights and abs session.

Yesterday I attended the unveiling of the new Jamba Kids Meals at the NASDAQ headquarters in Times Square. Now that I'm an aunt to (almost) 7 kids, I jumped at the opportunity to find out more about this healhty kids' food, thinking that trips to Jamba Juice could be a fun destination for me and my neices and nephews!
The event included a panel with a marketing executive from Jamba; Elizabeth Ward, the dietician who helped develop the meals; and Olympic champion swimmer Summer Sanders.
Over the past nine months, I’ve missed out on countless training sessions with friends, substituting solo hikes for group runs and private swims for masters swimming workouts. Meanwhile, Laurel ramped up her game. Last year she had her most successful season yet, completing her first Ironman and racing all over the country, all while gamely answered a marathon of questions about my pregnancy diet and training program from our pals at the gym and triathlon friends.
During the holidays, we discussed these questions over a few walks and hikes. Here, we present the most frequently asked and most interesting questions.
