On Monday we celebrated Amy's nine month birthday. As we have since her "one day" birthday, we did so with a sweet treat. So far we've celebrated with donuts, cronuts, and cupcakes and now, a Caramel Apple Sundae.

My go to pre-race breakfast for years and years was a sesame bagel with honey. It may not have had the perfect ratio of carbs to protein, but it worked and it was part of my pre-race ritual. When I decided to start eating gluten free (to help my allergies),

Most of my bike routes around New Paltz involve riding through orchards. They are everywhere. And starting in September, they start to come alive with apples and out-of-town apple pickers. The extent of my picking is usually jumping off my bike mid-ride to grab an apple or a pear off the tree.

Last month Bec and I visited Las Vegas for the Super Sprint Triathlon race and also to visit Interbike, the yearly cycling industry trade show.  From the latest time trial bikes to training wheels and bells - it seemed like everything bike related was represented at the show.

I used to be one of those people who would thrash themselves in workouts (just ask any of my training partners). If my coach told me to run a certain pace on the treadmill, I would force myself to do it, so much so that my heavy, loud breathing would often draw a crowd of concerned spectators at the gym.

Given that two of my sisters are professional triathletes, you’d think I’d be uber-passionate about the sport. And I am: When it comes to other people’s endeavors. As for me? I love the idea of adding “Ironman” or even “half-Ironman “ to my bio, but I’m realistic when it comes to the rigors of training for such a grueling event.  And, honestly, I ain’t got time for that. (Right now, that is. Never say never!)
Right now Diana Nyad, the woman who recently swam from Cuba to Florida, is about 26 hours into a 48 hour pool swim charity even to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief. The swim is taking place in Herald Square (right in front of Macy's) in a two lane temporary pool that was built just for the event. You can watch the entire event live here
The Waterman acai bowl - Açai with cashew milk & macs root, topped with granola, pineapple, blueberries, cashews, a dusting of coconut shavings & a drizzle of local honey. I had this three times last year! photo courtesy of Basik Bowl Last year I had the opportunity to go to Kona as a spectator - to cheer on friends and to take notes for the future.  I was very lucky to be able to stay in the Cervelo house, where we cooked some memorable meals (bacon, anyone?).  I didn't have the chance to explore many restaurants, so we polled our readers for places not to miss:
